Plant Characteristics
Appearance: Features thick, sword-shaped leaves that grow in a tight rosette formation. The center of each leaf is a deep, dark green, while the edges are variegated with silvery-white patterns.
Size: A relatively compact variety, it typically reaches heights of 12 to 20 inches (30–50 cm) and grows slowly.
Air Purification: Recognized for its ability to filter indoor toxins such as formaldehyde and benzene, a trait highlighted in NASA clean air studies.
Care Requirements
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but is highly adaptable to low-light conditions. Avoid direct, intense sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering: As a succulent, it stores water in its leaves and should only be watered when the soil is completely dry. During winter, watering should be further reduced to prevent root rot.
Soil and Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend. Estabrook's recommends adding perlite for better drainage.
Temperature: Prefers average room temperatures between 60°F and 85°F (16–29°C).
