Core Care Requirements
To keep your String of Hearts healthy in 2026, prioritize these environmental conditions:
Light: Requires bright, indirect light. While it can handle some morning or late afternoon sun, harsh midday rays can scorch its leaves. Insufficient light leads to "leggy" growth with large spaces between leaves.
Watering: Use the "soak and dry" method. Wait until the soil is almost completely dry (top 2-3 inches) before watering thoroughly. In winter, reduce watering significantly as the plant enters dormancy.
Soil: Must be well-draining. A high-quality cactus or succulent potting mix is ideal.
Temperature: Thrives in standard indoor temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C–27°C). It is not frost-tolerant and should be kept above 50°F.
Fertilizer: Feed sparingly with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer (like a 5-10-5 NPK ratio) once a month only during the active growing season (spring and summer).
Popular Varieties
While the standard green-and-silver version is common, several other cultivars are highly sought after by collectors:
Variegated String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii f. variegata): Features cream and pink markings alongside the green and silver.
Silver Glory: Known for its distinctively silver-hued, apple-shaped leaves that lack the typical pointed tip.
String of Arrows: Has narrower, more triangular or spade-shaped leaves.
